VOLUNTEER
Saturday July 16th, 2011
 at Cowell’s Beach, 11 – 5PM

 Thank you for volunteering for Day on the Beach, our annual event where we provide opportunities for those with challenges and special needs to enjoy kayaking, SCUBA diving and outrigger canoeing. This year Day on the Beach will be held at Cowell’s Beach on the 16th of July 2011.  The kayaking, SCUBA diving and outrigger canoeing are organized by professionals.  If you are competent and experienced in any one of these areas please call our office and we can put you in touch with the appropriate coordinator.

We really need the most help with are the specific tasks listed below:

Specific Tasks:
  • Making Signs (pre-event)
  • Event set up
  • Parking officials
  • Meeting, greeting and escorting participants
  • Registration of participants and volunteers
  • Wetsuit Coordinator
  • Receiving and distributing food and drinks 
  • Shared Adventures booth
  • Event break down (very important)
  • Pick-up truck needed
  • Pick up and deliver food (pre-event)
  • Pick up and deliver equipment (tents, chairs, tables, etc) (pre-event)
 We are dividing the day into several shifts:
  • Setup: 7:00am-11:00am
  • Volunteer Orientation:  11:00am
  • Early afternoon: 11:00am - 2:30pm (with mandatory orientation at 11:00)
  • Kayak morning shift: 10:30am-1:30pm
  • Kayak afternoon shift: 1pm-4pm
  • Volunteer Orientation:  2:00pm
  • Late afternoon: 2pm - 5pm (with mandatory orientation at 1pm)
  • Event wrap-up & breakdown 4:00pm-8:00pm

Please fill out the information below to register as a volunteer. Please indicate what time shift and task you are interested in volunteering for. We will try to accomodate your requests, but the final task assignment will take place on the beach.  If you are interested in assisting with the pick up and delivery of goods before the event, or offering up a pick up truck for use during set up and breakdown, please contact our office directly. 

If you are not able to attend this year, and still would like to help support the event, consider offering a donation.  All donations are tax-deductible, publicly acknowledged in our Day on the Beach publicity, and greatly appreciated.

Note:  if you will be coming out of town and driving over Hwy 17, we STRONGLY suggest that you take the morning shift and come over the hill as soon as you can.  Afternoon traffic jams on Hwy 17 are guaranteed, and a single fender bender could turn a quick drive in the morning into a parking lot by the afternoon.

NEWS FLASH:  WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF CHARGED, CORDLESS DRILLS or SCREWGUNS FOR PLATFORM CONSTRUCTION.  IF YOU OWN A CORDLESS ELECTRIC DRILL, PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON IT AND BRING IT ON SATURDAY

Friday July 15 to help us build the plywood platforms?		 Yes, I can help with construction on Friday July 15 at 9:30am.  Check here if you can help build platforms on Friday July 15.  About 9:30am - noon.  We need LOTS of help building 165+ sheets of plywood into pre-fab platforms.
